VDay3

Whether you’re planning a romantic night with your significant other tonight, or want to hit the town with your single friends, we’ve found some of Detroit’s best spots to celebrate Valentine’s Day.

We may know restaurants, but when it comes to choosing an outfit we need a little advice. Thankfully, our friends at Styleshack offered to help. Detroit’s most stylish source for clothing and accessories helps you define your personal style then connects you to neighborhood boutiques, specialty stores and unique e-tailers.

They’ve prepared clothing recommendations to pair with each restaurant. Check out their guide on Notes from the Styleshack.

Fountain Bistro

Fountain Bistro’s location in the heart of Campus Martius and its front row seat to the stunning Woodward Fountain makes this one of the prettiest views in the city. For Valentine’s Day they’re offering a four course dinner menu just as gorgeous as the view.

Start off with an eggplant rollatini or duck confit risotto with a spicy habanero sauce. The second course offers your choice or their spicy soup of the day or the bistro’s famous warm goat cheese salad, tossed with red pears, walnuts and a lemon-thyme vinaigrette. For your entree, choose from scrumptious dishes like lamb chops, filet mignon, salmon, and risotto with lobster, shrimp and scallops. We have our eye on the duck confit with a vegetable fried rice and sweet Thai chili sauce. It’s not on their regular dinner menu, but we’ve had it a couple times as a special and it is incredibly delicious. End your meal with a creamy tiramisu or decadent chocolate lovers cake.

Styleshack has the perfect trendy & professional look for your dinner at the bistro.

Dinner costs $46 per person, with an option to add a wine pairing with each course for $16. If you’re not a wine drinker, try one of the bistro’s rich hot chocolate creations like the zesty orange hot chocolate topped with cinnamon or a salted caramel and pecan hot chocolate (add a shot of rum if you’re feeling extra naughty). Reserve your meal through Open Table or call Fountain Bistro at (313) 237-7778.

Ottava Via

If you think this Corktown hotspot is is all about pizza and pasta, think again. Ottava Via is offering a laid back yet romantic V-Day meal showcasing everything we love about authentic Italian cuisine: simple, expertly prepared dishes that let the ingredients shine. The four course menu starts off with a lobster, shrimp, and scallop crudo, followed by a tomato jam burrata caprese. Your main course features a choice of lobster and scallop newburgh or a ten-ounce, bone-in veal porterhouse. For dessert, choose from a delectable selection of sweets like a Nutella panini or vanilla panna cotta.

Ottava Via debuted a new drink menu last week showcasing classic and craft cocktails. The Venetian – made with vodka, Durante pistachio liqueur, pineapple, and ginger beer – is the perfect way to kick off a romantic evening with your sweetie. Call (313) 285-9081 to reserve a table.

Ladies, a hip spot like Ottava Via requires an edgy, cool outfit. Styleshack has put together a look that will give you some major street cred.

La Feria

For a fun and adventurous dinner, take your Valentine to La Feria in Midtown. The restaurant is accepting reservations for three dinner seatings tonight. Their 7:30 p.m. slot is full, but there are spots available for 5:15 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., perfect for an early bite before heading to the movies or a late dinner after the Dirty Show. Their tapas style menu makes a wonderful intimate dinner for two. Share a few plates with your date and take turns feeding each other bacon-wrapped dates, eggplant with honey, or mussels in white wine sauce.

If you’re not coupled up, La Feria is also a great place to grab dinner with your single friends. They don’t have a mushy love-themed menu tonight, just the same amazing dishes you love every other day of the year. And the small plates concept works well for parties of any size. The bar area will remain open for walk-ins tonight, so it’s a great choice even if you don’t want to commit to a reservation.

Whoever you’re dining with, Styleshack has the perfect classic and comfortable look with an unexpected pop of color from Mexican chic accessories.

Call La Feria at (313) 285-9081 to reserve your table.

Pop Up with Detroit Gypsy Kitchen and Sister Pie

Pop up mavens Detroit Gypsy Kitchen and Sister Pie are teaming up for A Very Vegan Valentine’s Day Dinner at 7 p.m. tonight. This is an awesome choice for a trendy but super affordable date night. Dinner costs just $17. Bonus: you can bring your own beverages. Remember to pack your Valentine’s favorite bottle of wine (or maybe your date is a beer drinker).

The meal will start out with a heart-shaped personal pie – your choice of cauliflower red chili or herbed root vegetable. Your second course features vegetable coconut curry soup, followed by a lovely salad with kale, dried fruit and pumpkin seeds. Delicious jammy cranberry hand pies make a sweet (and tart) ending to your dinner.

This artisan, locally crafted meal sounds satisfying but not overly rich (we don’t want to feel like taking a nap after dinner, the evening’s just getting started!). We also heard there’s going to be karaoke after dinner, so you may want to plan on sticking around. Reserve your spot online.

If you’re unsure what to wear for a vegan popup dinner, Styleshack has the answer with a gorgeous boho chic look you can shop locally.

The Redford Theatre

The Redford Theatre, located in Detroit’s Old Redford neighborhood, is offering a free screening of the classic love story, Casablanca tonight. There’s no need to reserve advance tickets, just show up at the door and enjoy the free movie! We recommend arriving a little early, to make sure you get in. The films starts at 8 p.m. There’s an encore showing on Saturday at 2 p.m. The Redford also has famously inexpensive concessions, making this one of the most affordable ways to spend your Valentine’s Day.

We recommend stopping by Always Brewing in North Rosedale Park (near Grand River and Outer Drive) before the show so you have some time to actually talk with your date. Order up one of their beautifully well prepared javas, a cup of loose leaf tea, or Mexican Coke. You could also pop into Motor City Java House, just down the street from the theater.

Styleshack has the perfect sporty chic look that works great for an evening at the movies and wherever else the night takes you.

Happy Valentine’s Day!
