- “Exhibit Z” Opens at The Library Street Collective! - March 10, 2014
Friday night marked the gallery opening of “Exhibit Z,” the energetic and colorful display of artwork from the 27 international artists that brought you “The Z” parking garage in January. Hosted by Library Street Collective’s (LSC) JJ and Anthony Curis, Exhibit Z is a stunning show of contemporary talent with something for everyone to enjoy. Even if only from a viewer’s, rather than a collector’s perspective. Some pieces were priced in the tens of thousands of dollars, with the most expensive piece – a powder coated mild steel sculpture by L.A.-based artist Hacer – selling for $30,000.
The opening itself was an exhilarating scene of Detroit fervor and energy, with various representatives from the press, art and business worlds hobnobbing alongside us normal folk. Guests dressed in anything from dreads to suits, but shared a common awe and appreciation for the artists, LSC and Detroit’s emerging art scene: one that is unpretentious, gritty, beautiful, inspirational and lively all at the same time.
Didn’t make it to Friday’s opening event? Not to worry, as Exhibit Z will be on display through the end of April and possibly longer, according to JJ Curis. We should also note that LSC is worth a visit in itself, especially if you fancy yourself the artistic type. The stunning two-story warehouse space located smack dab downtown on Library Street between Grand River and Gratiot, describes itself as specializing in “cutting edge modern and contemporary fine art with a primary focus on artists who have developed their skills and visual art in public spaces.” And we couldn’t agree more. LSC is a destination in and of itself.
