Warm hashbrown potatoes smothered in cheddar cheese, glistening savory breakfast sausage fresh off the grill, and fluffy pancakes that practically melt when you pour syrup over them.
This is the breakfast scene at BB’s Butcher Inn, a homestyle diner in Eastern Market.
BB’s Butcher Inn is owned by the same folks who run BB’s Diner on 7 Mile. It’s name is a nod to the original Butcher’s Inn, which operated in this same location until it closed a few years back. The historic brick building is a nice place to refuel after a morning of shopping, and makes for a quiet, tasty meal the rest of the week.
Although BB’s serves a wide variety of dishes for breakfast, lunch and dinner – from their famous steak and shrimp to tacos and corned beef sandwiches – we come here for their breakfast items. They serve breakfast all day, so you can get your eggs and pancake fix well into the lunch hour.
BB’s does a traditional breakfast – eggs, pancakes, your choice of sausage or bacon – very well. The pancakes have just the right amount of sweetness, and their scrambled eggs are fluffy and properly cooked. You could also opt for a three-egg omelet, loaded up with meat and veggies. Maybe chicken and waffles are more your style. BB’s version has wonderfully crispy skin on the chicken.
Most breakfast dishes come with your choice of smothered potatoes or cheesy grits. Either way, there’s a lot of cheese action going on, and it’s delicious.
For those of us who like to have dessert for breakfast, BB’s caramel apple waffle is a must-try. Their dense, chewy cinnamon apple waffle with crisp edges is smothered in a sticky sweet caramel sauce then dotted with light and airy whipped cream. It is heaven on a plate. Hopefully, you don’t need to be super productive the rest of the morning.
Instead of the usual toast you’d find at most diners, BB’s serves warm and toasty pita bread. At breakfast time, that means they’ll serve toasted pita triangles instead of bread, which is actually great for dipping in runny eggs or a bowl of cheesy grits. For lunch, their burger and sandwiches are served on grilled pita bread dusted with parmesan cheese. Yea, it’s as good as it sounds.
Sandwiches come with a side of fries which are fluffy on the inside and lightly crisped on the outside, sprinkled with salt, pepper and parmesan cheese.
