We come to Delite Cafe & Deli for one thing: grilled sandwiches.
When Delite fires up their panini press and tucks your sandwich inside, magical things happen. The bread get toasty and crisp, with lovely char marks from the grill. Cheese gets slightly melty and gooey. The whole package transforms from regular ol’ sandwich to craveworthy pocket of meat and veggies.
It’s not just regular sandwiches that get to have all the fun; lavash wraps, breakfast bagel sammies and more get the special treatment. They can put just about anything into that panini press. You can just as easily get a non-toasted meal here, but the panini treatment really makes lunch or breakfast at Delite wonderful.
The front of the cafe is like a deli-meets-coffee-shop, with a counter for ordering sandwiches and a separate coffee bar with a few seats. It’s a perfectly fine spot to grab a quick bite. But if you make your way to the second room in back, you’ll discover a cozy lounge area with comfy leather couches and plenty of tables & chairs where you could sit back and enjoy the free wifi for hours. There’s even a big screen TV and remote.
Sandwiches are prepared with Boar’s Head meats and cheeses, and the coffee comes from Detroit’s own Great Lakes Coffee Roasting Company. The deli offers more than two dozen signature sandwiches, which Delite calls subs, or you can build your own stack from the deli case brimming with meats and cheeses just waiting to be sliced.
If you like your sandwiches to have a little extra zing, a splash of heat, you’ll love tasting your way through Delite’s signature collection. They do spicy sammies really well.
Their chipotle chicken wrap is loaded up with garlicky, peppery chicken, Colby-Jack cheese, lettuce, bell peppers and mayo. Mesquite smoked turkey breast on ciabatta gets a kick from banana peppers, accompanied by Muenster cheese, onions, lettuce, tomatoes and a pepperhouse dressing. Salsalito roasted turkey breast is infused with flavors of southwestern salsa: peppers, onions, jalapenos, sun-dried tomatoes, cilantro and spices. It’s piled onto ciabatta along with Muenster, lettuce, jalapenos, tomatoes, onions and mayo.
If you’re not into spicy sammies, Delite has plenty of deliciously mild options, too, like a golden classic chicken wrap, a corned beef reuben, or a steak and cheese sub. They offer vegetarian options like a hummus and veggie wrap, or a pepper and veggie ciabatta sandwich.
We love the blackened turkey breast hoagie with Pepper-Jack cheese, onions, lettuce and mayo. Pro tip: ask them to add tabbouleh to this sandwich (or any sandwich, really) to turn up the flavor volume.
Sip on a real fruit smoothie when you want to cool down, or warm up with a cozy mocha latte.
