Located in the First National building, Lunchtime Global has been feeding hungry Detroiters for the past five years, with no signs of slowing down. The secret’s out about this breakfast-and-lunch gem, which attracts throngs of hungry downtowners every weekday.
The menu offers a range of broadly interpreted global and regional recipes. You could literally close your eyes and point to a menu item, and end up with the best meal you’ve eaten all week. You really can’t go wrong with any of their fresh, delicious, and creative dishes.
Six homemade soups are offered daily, and there’s almost always a vegetarian or vegan option. You’ll find choices like African peanut, chicken noodle, New England clam chowder, Polish dill pickle, Tuscan chicken, white bean and beef chili, or roasted red pepper with black beans among the offerings.
Salads and sandwiches round out the bill of fare. There’s no shortage of downtown bankers and lawyers who will tell you that the Jive Turkey sandwich – made with smoked turkey breast, tomato, romaine, and honey dijon mustard – is their go-to midday meal. Equally popular is the Tony Sacco, stuffed with salami, ham, provolone, tomato slices, red onions, romaine lettuce, and a creamy caesar dressing.
We’re fans of the Wild Reuben, which is stacked with corned beef, whole grain horseradish, tarragon mustard, lettuce, tomato, and onion. Vegetarians and meat-eaters alike love the Roasted Sweet Potato sandwich with black bean relish, roasted red peppers, spring greens and a Thai chili sauce.
Lunchtime’s salads are hearty enough to fill you up – even on days when you’ve skipped breakfast and are ravishingly hungry by 11:30 – but light enough to prevent those pesky afternoon food comas. The Copenhagen salad is an absolute delight, made with mixed greens, candied pecans, pears, dried cherries, gorgonzola, and a green goddess vinaigrette.
The Thai Chicken salad has a devoted following of fans who love the romaine and mixed field greens tossed in a ginger vinaigrette with grilled chicken, carrots, cucumber, red peppers, fresh basil, celery and roma tomatoes.
We love Lunchtime’s half sandwich and soup combo, which lets you choose any half sandwich and a cup of soup for just $7.25 (make it a bowl for just 25 cents more). A similar option is available with salad and soup.
If you’re hosting a lunch meeting, there’s no better choice than catering from Lunchtime. The menu is pleasing to all palates, and the healthy fare won’t leave your team snoozing during the afternoon session. Lunchtime’s staff are very friendly, helpful, and accommodating with substitutions. Call 313.963.4871 or visit their website for more information.
